Sales Letter
The message of a sales letter should begin with an opening statement
promising the reader it will be important to them. Let them know
right away the message will benefit them in a very direct way.
The rest of the letter serves to define how the reader will benefit
from responding to the message.
Five steps to creating an effective sales letter.
1. Qualify the recipient. Do your homework to make sure you are
sending to the right person with the responsibility and authority
to react to the offer outlined in your letter.
2. Appearance is top priority. The reader must be impressed with
the look and feel of the letter before reading a single word. If
not, they might not read any of it. Use quality stationery and
follow formatting standards with good use of typography and open
space. Neatness and accuracy matter, as they reflect on how you
do business.
3. Qualify yourself and your company. Within the first two paragraphs
tell the reader why you are the latest, greatest, fastest and best
resource to meet their needs. If the reader doesn’t think
you provide an advantage they have no reason to read further.
4. Ask for the business. Be proactive and let the reader know
you want their business. Assure them you can and will deliver,
on time,
every time. Include an endorsement from one of your clients or
associates, and/or offer a list of references.
5. Provide a distinct call to action. Make it clear and easy
for the reader to contact you. Let them know they can call
the office,
your cell, text or email you to take advantage of the offer
outlined in the sales letter.
